The Setup: Large, flat dispersed camping area on a ridge-top former oil well pad accessed from Colorado State Highway 139 near the first switchback below Douglas Pass.

The Highlights: Massive open camping area with sweeping southern views and excellent solitude. The former well-pad layout creates unusually flat and spacious terrain, making it comfortable for larger camping setups while still feeling remote and elevated.
Connectivity:
Verizon: decent signal
Access Notes:
The access road is mostly newly graded and in good condition
One rough hill section contains exposed rocks and requires moderate clearance
Passable by a stock Promaster with careful driving
Not recommended for low-clearance vehicles or large rigs despite the huge campsite size
Plenty of room once at the site—“could fit a house” level spaciousness
Best suited for vans, trucks, overland rigs, and moderate-clearance campers
Remote ridge environment may involve wind exposure and no shade
