From the McClellan trailhead to here, it is all national forest land. Several large clearings under the trees for tents. At least 3 pull-offs from the road are good for a Class B van or small tow trailer; you might not be able to turn around well with a trailer. Lots of people camping. A little trashed, so please pack in and out.
Gravel roads are not bad; they seem freshly graded and graveled. No trouble in a 2-wheel drive van.
Some noise from the highway.
1-2 bars on Verizon at worst spots.
See photos for a few of the pull-offs.
