Comanche National Grasslands Stone House Dispersed Camp

The Setup: A dispersed camping site within the Comanche National Grasslands accessed via a marked National Forest Service entrance off Route 160. A two-track trail leads ~200 yards to a derelict stone house used as a landmark and windbreak.

Amenities:

None (primitive dispersed site)

The Highlights: Quiet open-range setting with excellent night skies and strong stargazing conditions. The old stone house provides partial wind shelter and nearby level spots for vehicle or tent setup. Very low traffic noise despite proximity to the highway.

Connectivity: Not specified.

Access Notes: Entry requires opening a barbed-wire fence at the NFS gate. A continued two-track trail extends beyond the stone house for additional seclusion. Open-range grazing area—expect cattle, cow patties, and associated conditions. Suitable for high-clearance vehicles and careful driving on primitive tracks.
